Welcome to this COVID-19 update from Comfort Lettings. Firstly, I hope that you are and your families are safe and well.

I want to provide you with an update on the measures that we have taken as a business and give you details of how we are continuing to operate safely and in line with government guidance.

Office Opening

Our office is currently closed until further notice. However, all our staff continue to work from home and are supporting our landlords and tenants remotely. We are available to be contacted our the normal phone number (0115 9338997) and our phone lines are open between 10am - 1pm, and then 2pm - 4:40pm. As and when more details are released regarding the opening of offices, we will update you.

Virtual Inspections

After a short and successful trial, we have rolled out virtual inspections across the branch for all tenanted properties. This has allowed us to maintain contact with our tenants (from a safe distance) and ensure that their property is in good condition as well as being able to deal with any queries that they may have.

We have been really pleased with the response we have received and found that tenants have risen to the challenge during lockdown, often going above and beyond to make sure their properties are in tip-top shape and providing us with photos of beautifully kept homes.

Home Moves

Were we are able, and it is safe to do so, we are still facilitating a small number of house moves. In line with government guidance, where a Home Move is 'reasonably necessary' a house move can still go-ahead. Of course, this needs to be done with care and ensuring that all social distancing guidelines are met and followed. Practically speaking, this means that we waiting 72hrs before inspecting vacated properties, posting keys for new move-ins where possible, as well as conducting virtual Right-to-Rent checks with tenants. Maintenance

As you will appreciate, there is still on-going maintenance at properties that require attendance. We are attending the most urgent and important jobs, and where possible, encouraging tenants to wait for assistance with the most low-priority issues. Landlords are still required, for example, to be undertaking their annual Gas Safety Inspections (CP12) so we are continuing to arrange these. Our contractors have been asked to wear appropriate PPE, and in most cases, we are able to arrange a time with the tenants to undertake work that either coincides with their daily exercise/walk or for them to stay in a different room in the house whilst to the job is attended to. We are most appreciative to our tenants who are making special efforts to accommodate our contractors.

I've rented a house through Comfort lettings for 4 months now and my experience has been very positive. They are always helpful and responsive, and I was especially grateful last week when my kitchen flooded and they arranged for maintenance to arrive the same morning, even during the Covid-19 crisis. Working to shape the Industry's Response

We have been working hard to shape the conversation throughout the industry and ensure that it responds in a fair and appropriate way. The government has taken a clear line around the continued expectations placed on tenants to ensure that their onward obligations are met, whilst encouraging landlords to engage positively and sympathetically. We have worked with a number of tenants, helping them understand what help they are entitled to and ensuring that they receive the help and support that they need.
