Bank Holiday Property Tips

Whether you have a whole 3-day weekend or just an hour to spare, the bank holiday is a great time to get some property maintenance sorted for both landlords and tenants. Take a look at some of our ideas below and be sure to share your results with us!


If you have a bit more time this weekend and your tenants have gone away for the bank holiday then now is the ideal time to get those bigger pieces of decorating done. From a simple lick of paint to new carpets- you’ll be amazed what you can get done in three days. Your tenants will return from their holidays happy and ready to take good care of the property over the winter months.


Get ahead of the game and ready for Autumn by checking your property is prepared for colder weather. If you've not got a lot of time to spare, a simple once over check will at least put you on a strong footing going in to the winter. Winter can bring smaller problems to a head so it's great to get in there early and sort them before they become big issues. Some key things to check are in good order are gutters and drains to ensure they are cleared and ready for Autumn leaves, exterior walls and roofing to catch any potential winter leaks early and insulation and draught proofing to help your tenants improve their energy efficiency. You could also think about arranging a boiler service to nip any boiler problems in the bud.


This is a a great job for tenants to get ahead with during the bank holiday. With plenty of outside activities happening over summer, lots of dust and dirt can make its way in to the property unnoticed and build up over time. On top of this, tenants tend to be in the property less over summer with holidays and weekend outings so may not have had time to undertake big cleans. Some useful bits to note which can often get missed include taking down curtains and blinds for a deep clean and pulling out furniture to clean those hard to reach spots. Make sure that if you notice any structural issues when you do this that you report them to your landlord or letting agent as soon as possible.
