Nottingham Area Guide: West Bridgford

West Bridgford is a firm favourite Nottingham suburb. Located south of Nottingham City and bordering the Trent Bridge area of Nottingham, West Bridgford is easily accessible to both the city centre and major commuting routes to the A52 and the South. It is a highly desirable destination for families and young professionals. With excellent schools, a number of independent and chain coffee shops, bars and restaurants and a good quality housing stock, lettings properties here are in high demand.

Shops: As one of Nottingham’s most highly desired suburbs, West Bridgford boasts fantastic independent and high street shops. An impressive range of hairdressers and beauty salons, banks, pharmacies and gift shops line Central Avenue. West Bridgford is also home to well-known high street favourites such as COOK, Oliver Bonas and M&S.

Eating Out: West Bridgford has become famous in the Nottingham area for its upmarket bars and restaurants. Popular spots include The Botanist, Escabeche, Gusto and Copper. For authentic Italian try La Storia- their sharing antipasti dishes are not to be missed! If a quick bite is what you’re after you are spoilt for choice with a range of delis: Taste, The Tall Frog, Pastability and No. 8 all provide delicious lunch options. And of course, with several famous sporting grounds in the area you will not be short of a good pub and a pint. Trent Bridge Inn, Larwood and Voce and Southbank Bar are amongst the most popular spots.

Schools: The area is well known for having several excellent primary and secondary schools with strong reputations. On their last Ofsted inspection West Bridgford Infant School, West Bridgford Junior School and The West Bridgford School (Secondary) all received outstanding reviews.

Transport Links: Situated close to Nottingham City centre, residents of West Bridgford benefit from all the transport hubs the city has to offer including the train station and tram network. Hop on a green line bus which will take you to the city centre in around 15 minutes.

Parks and Recreation: Sports fans will find plenty to keep them busy at the weekends. Home to some of the regions most loved sports grounds including Trent Bridge cricket ground, City Ground (home to Nottingham Forest) and Meadow Lane (home of Notts County), making West Bridgford one of the prime areas in the Midlands for sports watching. Just a stone’s throw away at Holme Pier Point you’ll find The National Water Sports Centre. Take the family for a walk at the weekend around this beautiful country park and you’ll wander across plenty of water sports to watch from rowing to wake-boarding and more! Community Events: If you’re not a sports fan, don’t worry, there’s plenty on offer for you too! Thanks to the variety of independent businesses there are plenty of interesting events on offer- concerts, antique fairs, a gin festival and food festivals, you’re sure to find something to whet your appetite. The event of the year is Riverside festival. Held in the middle of summer on Victoria Embankment, three days of live music, food and events sees thousands flock to the banks of the river to enjoy (free!) family fun.
